User password reset

Hello everyone,

I couldn't find any clear information on allowing existing users to reset a forgotten password. To recover the admin password, yes.

But for an external or internal user, if they had received an encrypted mail in the distant past, created a password and have since forgotten ... what is the approach for allowing them to self-service their password reset?

Much thanks for any help!

To my knowledge, there is no function for self-service.

Gotcha. Hmm … It would be a nice feature.

I just found a response from Martijn a few years back about the effect on security. Which makes sense. But our issue is that when an external user receives an email only once every so often, they forget the password they put in every time. And most external users fit this category.

So then it’s up to me to reset the password and deal with it manually each time. How have other admins dealt with this? Or do they?

I've ran into this issue on a number of occasions. It's not a constant issue but it happens. I just have to end up resetting their password. Sometimes deleting that user and re-sending the encrypted e-mail works better that way the end user can just pick a password on their own again.
