Hi everybody

Has anybody seen this before?

We get certain emails where the umlauts in the subject line are garbled:

headers are encoded but the result is incorrect?

The header does not seem to be encoded. Are you sure these are the
original headers? If so the header should have been encoded because
afaik you are only allowed to use US-ASCII in the headers.

Hi everybody

Is Djigzo not dealing correctly with 8-bit headers?

There is no sane way to deal with mailheaders containing 8bit which
are not encoded. This is a very common mistake of program-created
mails that they don't encode the Subject properly or forget to add the
charset information.

A correct subject with Umlauts should be something like that:

Regards

Andreas

···

Subject: =?iso-8859-1?Q?Best=E4tigungs-E-Mail?=

I will try to get the email sent to Gmail for a cleaner look at the headers.

I think I now what might happen. When I send an email through Djigzo
with a subject containing non-ASCII characters WITHOUT properly
encoding the subject, the subject of the final email no longer contains
valid Unicode characters. If the subject is correctly encoded the
subject is correct. Headers should only contain US-ASCII characters. I
will check where the actual conversion from 8bit to 7bit takes place.

Kind regards,

Martijn
