Hallo,
we are using our own email client and our partners are sending us encrypted
emails which we decrypt with ciphermail.
In commonly used email clients those are displayed correctly but
unfortunately we only receive an email with an empty body one smime.p7m
attachment.
The attachment is a multipart mime file which is decrypted but has some
weird encoding so no tool that i tried can read it.
So my question is what exactly is happening with the file and what do i
have to do to be able to get it in a standard mime format?

The most likely reason for this is that the original email was opaquely
signed (as opposed to clear text signed) and then encrypted. An opaquely
signed email is an S/MIME signed email containing an smime.p7m
attachment. It's not encrypted, only digitally signed, but you need an
S/MIME capable email client in order to view it.
One solution is to tell the CipherMail gateway to remove the signature
(see advanced S/MIME settings "Remove signature"). The CipherMail
gateway will then convert the email into a readable email.
