pgp function and enigmail/thunderbird

Hi,

I´m using the latest ciphermail-version on a CentOS 6. I´m testing the pgp-function with a enigmail/Thunderbird. I´m having some trouble with the automatic decryption when I receive Mails from the enigmail. The encryption towards the enigmail works fine. Is there a way to troubleshoot this behavior ? I can´t see anything special in the logfile.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Kind regards

fatcharly

What PGP encoding do you use with email sent with Enigmail? PGP/INLINE
or PGP/MIME?

Kind regards,

Hi Martijn,

my testpartner is using inline. We changed it to mime, but there was no difference in the systems behavior.

Kind regards

Hi Martijn,

sorry, but my test-partner still used inline. Now we are on mime and all works great. Is it allways better to use mime or is there an advantage using the inline-method ?

my testpartner is using inline. We changed it to mime, but there was no difference in the systems behavior.

By default PGP/INLINE for incoming email is not enabled. PGP/INLINE
requires that every email is completely scanned for PGP parts. That's
why it is not enabled by default because not everyone needs PGP/INLINE
support. You need to enable it for the global settings.

We changed it to mime, but there was no difference in the systems
behavior.

Can you send me (directly to me) the log file so I can have a look.
Could you also send the file which was not decrypted?

kind regards,

Martijn

so inline could be a performance issue with large amount of incoming mail ?

Yes could be. That depends on the number and size of email you receive.
The problem with PGP/INLINE is that the PGP encrypted parts are inside a
part of the email (therefore the term inline). It is not possible to
detect from a header whether or not the message contains a PGP part.
With PGP/MIME, a specific PGP content type header is used to indicate
that the message is PGP. So with PGP/MIME it only requires a check for
the header whether or not the message is PGP/MIME. With PGP/INLINE the
complete message must be scanned. Although scanning is fast, it is
however much more CPU intensive to scan the complete message instead of
scanning just the header. That's the reason PGP/INLINE has been disabled
by default for incoming email.
